Will future generations have clean water to drink?

One of the main challenges we currently face is water supply in urban areas, home to more than half the world´s population. Currently, over a billion people do not have access to treated water. This situation will tend to worsen over the next 25 years, especially in the cities of developing countries. The main causes for this are irresponsible consumption, pollution of water sources and an increase in urban population. In Brazil, one of the worst cases can be found in São Paulo. Despite being the country´s largest and richest city, its population suffers from a shortage of water. According to the United Nations, water availability per capita in the areas has reached a critical level. "De Olho nos Mananciais (Keep an Eye on Water Sources) is a campaign that aims to raise awareness about the status of the water catchments that supply large cities, starting with São Paulo. It also aims to promote the intelligent use of water. The Instituto Socioambiental (ISA) is the organization responsible for coordinating the campaign and intends to build a partnership with civil society, government and the public.

ISA has worked on the issue of water sources for over ten years. The need to change the behavior of the population and the public authorities, in order to reduce levels of degradation and protected watersheds, has led ISA to design a campaign to inform and to increase public understanding of the issue.

"De Olho nos Mananciais"- take part in thes campaign and make a difference!
